Planetary nebula in Lyra

The ring nebula is the prototype of planetary nebula. The ejected material of the star forms a torus. The central star (Mag. 15.0) is the remnant of a star similar to our sun that, at the end of its nuclear-burning life ejected to the space its external layers.
